NAKIVO launched v9.4 with Backup to Amazon S3 and P2V Recovery

Backup to Amazon S3:

With this new feature is not possible to use Amazon S3 from AWS as your Backup repository. By using Amazon S3 as a backup repository, costumers now have a Storage Cloud Repository, and by using Amazon S3 is now easy to restore VMs, EC2 instances, individual files, and application objects directly from Amazon S3.

This new feature and Amazon S3 support arrive after in the latest releases NAKIVO had included the integration with Microsoft Azure.

You can now send to Amazon S3 not only your backup of your VMs but also your physical servers.

Options available inside of this new feature:

  • Direct Backup
Send backups of your VMs and physical servers directly to Amazon S3.
  • Backup Copy
Keep a copy of your primary backup in Amazon S3 to guarantee data availability.
  • Instant VM Boot
Boot your VMs directly from compressed backups in Amazon S3 for near-instant recovery
  • Data Compression
Save storage space by compressing your backup data.
  • File Recovery
Restore individual files and folders without starting a full backup recovery.
  • Object Recovery
Restore objects of Microsoft applications such as Exchange, Active Directory, and SQL Server.

Instant P2V

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is now empowered with the instant restoration of Windows and Linux physical machines as VMware VMs. With the help of this feature, users are able to instantly recover from a physical machine failure, test updates before applying them to a production environment, and easily migrate from a physical to the virtual environment.

This one of the features that all backup tools should have. I have said this for many years that we should be able to backup a physical server and then restore it in our virtual environment. I am glad that NAKIVO also added this feature to NAKIVO Backup & Replication.

Backup P2V is a handy feature, not only in case of a failure of a physical server but also as a P2V. We can backup all our physical infrastructure and then restore it in our VMware/Hyper-V or Amazon S3 environment.

Options available inside of this new feature:

  • Add a Windows or Linux Server to the inventory.
  • Back up a physical Windows or Linux server.
  • Set up and run a Flash Boot job for the newly created physical machine backup to a VMware VM.
  • Verify that the recovered VM has appeared on the target host and is bootable.
  • Log into the created VM and check the Guest OS for any errors.

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

NAKIVO Backup & Replication now adds role-based access control. This improves the security of data protection activities. Also, it gives administrators larger control of task delegation.

What is means is Administrators can now assign preset and custom roles with a desired set of rights and permissions to users. This, in turn, ensures that business users have the right level of access to NAKIVO Backup & Replication.

Instant Object Recovery to Source for Microsoft Exchange

NAKIVO Backup & Replication v9.4 instantly restore Microsoft Exchange objects that include emails, contacts, and calendar items to the original or a custom location directly from deduplicated backups.

Options available inside of this new feature:

  • Create and run a backup job for a VM with the supported versions of Microsoft Exchange or Active Directory Server.
  • Start Object Recovery for Microsoft Exchange/Active Directory and specify the application objects you want to recover.
  • Restore the selected application objects to the original server.
  • Check that recovery was successfully completed, and the application objects were restored to the source.

Instant Object Recovery to Source for Active Directory

NAKIVO Backup & Replication v9.4 users are now able to simplify Active Directory management by restoring individual Active Directory objects, like, user accounts and groups, to their original location or a custom location. In addition, Active Directory objects can be recovered directly from deduplicated backups.

Backup of Fault-tolerant VMware VMs

VMware fault-tolerance works by creating a synchronized replica of a VM, to which the live VM will automatically failover if necessary. Support for fault-tolerant VMware VM adds another data protection method to the host of services provided by NAKIVO Backup & Replication.

Not all backup tools in the market can backup VMs that are set for Fault-tolerant, so this feature added to version 9.4 is a great additional improvement for NAKIVO Backup & Replication tools.

“NAKIVO Backup & Replication v9.4 expands businesses’ ability to tailor backup and recovery to their specific needs,” said Bruce Talley, CEO of NAKIVO Inc. “We are delighted to continually offer customers more flexibility when it comes to choosing backup destinations, recovery types, and security controls.”
