What is new on Vembu BDRSuite v5.5

Vembu launched a couple of weeks ago a new version of their main product, Vembu BDRSuite v5.5. This blog post, What is new on Vembu BDRSuite v5.5 will show the main features and improvements in this new version.

Use the latest Vembu Versions to upgrade your VM backup by using either Hypervisor or Public Cloud Storage. With new feature enhancements, you’ll be able to backup and restore VMs, Templates, or email accounts without compromising the quality. Additionally, these enhancements provide new functionalities.

New Features

  • Support for VMware vSphere v8.x

BDRSuite now supports Backup and Replication for virtual machines running on the latest version of VMware vSphere v8.x.

With the release of vSphere 8, backup tools need to be able to support and work on this latest vSphere release as well. BDRSuite took the necessary steps to do just that by releasing an updated version 5.5 that supports the new vSphere v8.x and offers native Backup and Replication capabilities.

  • Google Cloud as Backup Repository

Google Cloud Storage (Object Storage) is now supported in BDRSuite to store backup data, backup copy, and offsite copy data. BDRSuite already supports other Cloud Storage such as Amazon S3, Azure Blog, and S3 Compatible storage such as Wasabi, MinIO, etc.

Google Cloud Storage (Object Storage) is now a fully supported backup repository in BDRSuite. It joins our other supported cloud-storage providers, such as Amazon S3, Azure Blog, and S3 compatible services, such as Wasabi and MinIO. Google Cloud Storage is already newer than many other public cloud storage options on the market, but Vembu has adapted its product to work well with this new type of service.

As we can see in the next image, when you select Object Storage for your Repository, you can see all the Cloud Object Storage that BDRSuite supports and now is included Google Cloud Storage.

  • ConnectWise Integration

BDRSuite now supports ConnectWise Integration. This feature allows you to create service tickets automatically in ConnectWise Manage for BDRSuite activities. The tickets can be created for various tasks (Backup/Restore/Replication) and different task status (Success/Failed/Warning) on relevant service boards.

ConnectWise HUB supports BDRSuite. Now you can automatically create service tickets in ConnectWise Manage for BDRSuite activities (i.e. backup, restore, and replication). With the ConnectWise HUB, MSPs have an easy way to manage their customers and assets. ConnectWise helps MSPs manage assets and customers, and this integration will allow you to automatically create tickets based on your BDRSuite activities in ConnectWise Manage.

As we can see in the next image, we can now easily connect to a ConnectWise server and use ConnectWise Integration.

  • Backup and Recovery of VMware VM Templates

BDRSuite for VMware now supports backup for VMware VM Templates. VM Templates will appear in the list of VMware ESXi/vCenter entities that can be selected for backup. You can configure backup for VM Templates and restore when required.

Now you have the option to backup and restore VM Templates using BDRSuite for VMware. With this latest update, you’ll be able to backup and configure VM Templates in the list of VMware ESXi/vCenter-supported entities that can be backed up. This new backup option makes it possible to back up and recover VMs Templates.

  • Backup and Recovery of Google Workspace Shared Drive

BDRSuite now supports backup and recovery of Shared Drives in Google Workspace Organization.

BDRSuite supports backup of shared drives in Google Workspace Organization for Mail Backup, Calendar Backup, Contacts/ Peoples Backup, and Google Drive Backup.

  • Backup and Recovery of Microsoft 365 Archive Mailbox

BDRSuite now supports backup and recovery of user emails in the Archive Mailbox (In-place Archive) of Microsoft 365.

  • Deduplication for Microsoft 365 User Mails

BDRSuite now reduces bandwidth and storage utilization by using the mail-level deduplication feature at the source while backing up Microsoft 365 user mailboxes. With this, BDRSuite avoids transmitting duplicate email data and saves bandwidth and storage.

Besides the new features and options shown above, Vembu BDRSuite v5.5 made some improvements:

  • VMware Backup Performance increased by 2x
  • VMware CBT Reset
  • Parallel Disk Image Backup
  • Parallel Synthetic Full Backup

  • Restore the backed-up user mails directly from Microsoft 365 console through BDRSuite Add-in for Outlook
  • Download Restore Logs for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
  • Breadcrumbs view for OneDrive and Group OneDrive Restore
